Achieving Excellence in emergency medicine
Cardiac Emergencies
Knowing what to do in a cardiac emergency is just as important as knowing where to go. Our highly-skilled emergency physicians and nurses have the most up-to-date equipment at their fingertips to help diagnose and begin treatment immediately including advanced diagnostic cardiac testing and radiology and most recent medications. And our emergency team works with our board-certified cardiologists to offer expert cardiac care.

Backed by a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory, Melrose-Wakefield Hospital is the only area hospital with emergency angioplasty services. In conjunction with Massachusetts General Hospital, our doctors perform this life-saving procedure that opens blocked arteries and limits heart damage.
The emergency team at Lawrence Memorial Hospital includes top-notch cardiologists available on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Stroke Emergencies
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability. Few conditions can occur as rapidly and with as devastating consequences as stroke. Data from the American Stroke Association indicate that over 700,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke each year. Of these, about 500,000 are first attacks and 100,000 are recurrent attacks.
Yet about 4.5 million stroke survivors are alive today. The innovation of diagnostic technologies, advanced treatment techniques and improved management of stroke risk factors have created new hope for persons who have had a stroke or who are at risk of having a stroke. Both of our hospitals have been designated as primary stroke centers meaning our physicians, nurses and paramedics are specially trained in stroke care and available 24/7.
Our hospitals are dedicated to preventing, diagnosing and treating strokes, offering applications of the latest technology and medications while treating the stroke patient's entire needs. Read about our Stroke Services.
